I was born into a poor working-class family, northwest of the “Show Me State” in the USA. I am considered a Notable Native of my hometown though I endured an itinerant childhood, living with my mother in various states before eventually ending up in Detroit.

I am called so many names and nicknames that some people don't realize they are referring to the same person. I dropped out of high school in the ninth grade to follow my passion for music which was my dream since I was 4.

My private life has been quite turbulent including suicide intent, alcohol and drug abuse and accusations of homophobia and sexism sprung from the lyrics of my songs. I have twice married and divorced my high school sweetheart with whom I have a 12 year old daughter.

My recording debut was with a group while I simultaneously launched my solo career climbing to number 2 on the US album charts in 1999. Within two years, I won five Grammy statuettes and experienced skyrocketing records’ sales.

Some critics find my lyrics nasty, offensive, disturbed and even angry while others think they are some of the most creative, original, and exciting releases of any musical genre in the past decade.
