I was never so delighted when the flashing lights and sounds of the jackpot going off when I looked up and realized I had won a jackpot over $5000. I could not take my eyes off the machine as I looked on in a state of disbelief. It took a few minutes for the reality to sink in, but when it did, I quickly called for everyone in the house to come and look just to make sure I was not wrong. I was right. JACKPOT!

On my lucky day I thought I would venture out and try a new game and came upon Super Jax. Around the fourth try I hit the progressive. I went totally numb when I saw flashing across my screen “CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE WON THE JACKPOT” (which was over $14,000).

I was literally; born in motion on a train journey across the icy stretches of Siberia in 1938 while my mother was en route to visit my father, a Red Army soldier. I grew up in Bashkiria, a remote district in the Soviet Republic as the youngest and only son of a poor family.

My love affair with dance started when I first saw the ballet “Song of the Cranes” into which my mother smuggled us as we didn’t have the price of a ticket.

At 15, I joined the local ballet but soon after I auditioned and was accepted for the Kirov in

Leningrad. I distinguished myself as Kirov’s most brilliant and unmanageable student and in 1961 during a debut in Paris I decided to defect and did not return to Russia.

I was instantly hired by a recognized ballet company and was paid more money a week than I had made in six months with my previous company.  Soon afterward, the greatest ballerina in the world; twenty years older than me, chose me as her partner and we debuted in 1962. This established my reputation as a great dancer as well as a media star.

For nearly thirty years I danced and was seen as young, strong, good-looking and charming. In the end, the continual work took its toll on my body and technique, and the touring programs of my final years as a dancer saddened many admirers. I passed away in Paris, January 6, 1993 at 54. Mine is considered by many, the most extraordinary tale in twentieth century ballet.
